THE SILVER TASSIE

2023

  • The Silver Tassie is a four-act expressionist play by Seán O’Casey about the First World War based in 1914 in Dublin, Ireland and the Western Front. We follow a small cast of characters and their experiences during this time. The war was to reflect the suffering of war.

However, for this project, the task was to create a standard film prosthetic instead of portraying makeup for theatre.

  • I was responsible for designing and creating a custom film-grade prosthetic.

I practised casting roles for all the characters in the script, ultimately selecting one character to design in detail.

I sculpted, moulded, and crafted a custom prosthetic piece for my chosen character.

I experimented with various materials and designed two looks for two disfigured soldier side characters, exploring different techniques to capture the unique aspects of their injuries.

    Other Bits: Photography, Hair styling.

  • Teddy is a stocky, former domestic abuser who goes to war. For his character, I designed his wounds as though he had suffered the impact of a nail grenade to his face. The injury is brutal, reflecting his violent past.

I curated a gelatine nose/upper lip prosthetic to create the wound. Painted with alcohol-based paints, SFX dirt & a mix of congealed blood and liquid blood created varying textures.

  • Wound: Grenade

  • Wound: Healing/Scarred Grenade wound.

    Experimenting with on-skin silicone gel.
