La Liberazione Di Ruggiero Dall’Isola D’Alcina is an Italian opera performance from 1625 centred on a battle between two sorceresses, Alcina & Melissa, over the warrior, Ruggerio. Ruggerio is held captive on an island by the evil sorceress, Alcina. Although this performance ancient & serious, the director instructed us to create it as a comedy which leads nicely into ‘The Sofa’.
Alongside this performance, there’s a quick interval into the next opera, The Sofa.
The Sofa is an opera set in a Parisian ballroom during the Nineteenth century. It’s centred over a man who consequently is transformed into a sofa. Completely whacky and weird, it’s a great ending to both brilliant performances.
